It is 151st Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji.
Our parent organization is named after Mahatma Gandhiji.
Sarvodaya: Universal Uplift – well-being of humanity as a whole. The good of the individual is contained in the good of all. Everyone’s work has the same value. All have the same right of earning their livelihood from their work. That a life of labour is the life worth living.
Mahatma Gandhiji strived for dignity for all human beings in equal measure. Let us vow to fulfill his ideals.
Mahatma Gandhi Sarvodaya Sangh traces its origins to the visit of Mahatma Gandhiji to Uruli Kanchan in 1946. In his stay of a week in Uruli Kanchan Mahatma Gandhiji initiated a course of events which have changed the fortunes of Uruli Kanchan forever.
Mahatma Gandhiji established Nisargopchar Ashram (Nature Cure Center) at Uruli Kanchan and asked his disciple Manibhai Desai to develop this center as well as carry out the work of social reform amongst the rural poor.
In 1950 Manibhaiji collected 30 boys and started a school in a hut inside Nisargopchar Ashram. He was the first teacher. After 4 years this school shifted to temple-school complex in Uruli Kanchan. Mahatma Gandhi Sarvodaya Sangh was established by Dr. Manibhai Desai In 1952 with the objective of uplift of rural population through education. The purpose of founding this institution was to empower rural area around Uruli Kanchan, Pune district through Gandhian ideal of ‘sarvodaya, self determination and equality’.
Our organization was founded on the principles of ‘Sarvodaya’ as envisioned by Mahatma Gandhiji. As a means of empowerment of rural community we have put a great importance on education. We put girls and boys at the heart of our endeavours. Our approach is providing skill based education and nurturing inner strengths of students, which will empower the generations to uplift themselves.
We owe this to the great human being called Mahatma Gandhiji.
